It's true about the job demand. A colleague of mine had 400 applicants for a job he couldn't get four applicants for two years ago. Your point No 9 I strongly encourage. Don't think of it as free work; think of it as free education and experience.

Hi Harry,

Informative post! I am late in commenting since I too was bitten by the same BUG. Fortunately some old proactive actions helped :)
The points are all great and valid. If they are listed with priority I would say the mantra is networking, networking and networking.... it solves all the problem. For me it is a fresh experience.

Cheers!

Great post Harry - to me it seems that applicable LinkedIn groups are the most fertile places to put yourself. Start and participate in discussions. Recruiters are all over them. But I have to admit, many of them are recruiting for overseas jobs.

Cheers,
JMF

Daniel,

Yes of course, Twitter. I think Twitter is great for getting the word out that you are looking, but it is so fleeting. You need to keep using it over and over to stay on people's minds in that way. I also know that some recruiters are tweeting openings as well, so it sort of serves the same purpose as a job board, although not as selective.

Thanks,

Harry, Great points about the EDA economy. I'd also add Twitter as a possible tool to help people in EDA stay networked and learn of new opportunities. Hope to see you at DAC this week.
