EDA Trends for 2010???
I’ve been asked by a fellow blogger to offer a prediction of the top trend in EDA in 2010 as a contribution to that blog. I have one in mind, but I think it would be interesting to hear from everyone else, since you all are a lot smarter than me.
So, what do you think will be the top trend in EDA in 2010?

I re-read today the story of IBM’s Black Team. There are many serious challenges faces the EDA Industry. My hope that the trend for 2010 is that like minded and serious individual come together to address them.
See http://www.t3.org/tangledwebs/07/tw0706.html in particular his conclusion:
A group of slightly above-average people assigned to do what many considered an unglamorous and thankless task not only achieved success beyond anyone’s wildest expectations, but undoubtedly had a great time doing it and wound up becoming legends in their field.
As I read through the end-of-year lists of all the problems the computer industry and the world as a whole is facing, I just can’t seem to bring myself to view them with gravity the authors seem to intended. After all, even the worst of are problems seem solvable by a few like-minded people with a bit of dedication.

But that is a hope, not a prediction.

This isn’t a prediction but an observation. I’ve talked with a large sampling of EDA companies in the past few months and, for the most part, it’s business as usual: improved results, improve time to market, eliminate respins, blah blah blah. But there are a handful of companies that were saying their number one priority is to restore profitability to the semiconductor industry. That’s going to be done by reducing actual cost in not only the design, but the testing and manufacture of chips by as much as 90 percent. The real trend and issue for the industry is real costs.

I think of more parallelazation of EDA tools, industry standards, DFM will play a major role,
Not sure about 3d design.

Hot areas in different categories would be -
Architecture definition - Increased use of Virtual Platforms
Verification - Formal & Mixed signal to gain
Implementation - Low power
Backend - DFM
Sales - Cloud computing
